LaVerne spent most of his life studying the King James Version of the Holy Bible. He had read it through approximately 20 times during his 81 year life span.
LaVerne's other passions were caring for sick or injured animals - mostly birds. The time left after studying the Bible and caring for the birds was devoted to painting. LaVerne, unlike his brother who painted some-what rapidly, could be very slow and meticulous. Thus, Laverne completed only about a dozen or so paintings during his life time. LaVerne worked in watercolor, pastel, and in Windsor and Newton Oils. For example, a large fall scene painting with a huge white oak tree, split-rail fences and background of Blue Ridge Mountains under a Cerulean blue sky took Laverne two years to complete. It is, without a doubt, a masterpiece.
Other talents Mr. Zepp possessed to a very high degree were singing, playing classical and religious music on their upright piano, and photography.
