About The Taneytown History Museum
Welcome to the Taneytown History Museum, located in downtown Taneytown Maryland. Our museum is located at 24 East Baltimore Street within what was once the old Taneytown Bank and Trust. We are just across the street from the Taneytown City Hall and near a variety of shops.
The Taneytown History Museum was established in 2004 by the Taneytown Chamber of Commerce to provide a place through which the history and artifacts of Taneytown could be shared with everyone, whether a resident of Taneytown or a visitor from out of state. About 24 East Baltimore Street
Constructed in 1887 to house the Taneytown Savings Bank, the building at 24 East Baltimore Street is a prime example of Victorian commercial architecture. Of special note is the elaborate pressed tin cornice decoration and the cast iron embellishing the ridge of the front gable.
While the second story is basically the same as when first built, the current street level entry way is the result of a mid-20th century renovation.
The Taneytown Savings Bank later became the First National Bank. A merger between the Birnie Trust Company and the First National Bank in the 1960s resulted in the creation of the now defunct Taneytown Bank and Trust Company.

The Taneytown Chamber of Commerce and the Taneytown History Museum Committee extend a hardy "Thank You!" to all our volunteers, donors and lenders of artifacts, without which this would be but a dream. Thank you one and all!
